THE DARK CRYSTAL FEATURING Q+A WITH TOBY PHILPOTT

Cardiff Mini Film Festival presents a screening of The Dark Crystal in Cardiff Masonic Hall’s Temple Room, featuring a Q+A hosted by Tom Betts with puppeteer, Toby Philpott, also famously known for being half of Jabba the Hut.
 
Tickets are £6 for adults and £3 for children under 16. There is no food or drink allowed in the Temple Room.
This event is supported by Film Hub Wales as part of the BFI Film Audience Network (FAN).

Twisted Tales is back for 2019! Expect this year’s shorts to be scarier, darker and the most twisted films we’ve ever screened at Cardiff Mini Film Festival! 

As part of this event there will also be a special midsummer screening of The Wicker Man in one of Cardiff’s most unique buildings! Starring Edward Woodward and the legendary Christopher Lee, Robin Hardy’s film is widely considered to be a landmark of both British and horror cinema.

This screening is part of BFI Film Feels: Obsession, a UK-wide cinema season, supported by the National Lottery and BFI Audience Network. Explore all films and events at www.filmfeels.co.uk 

After the event, guests can make their way to Chapel 1877 where they can get 20% off food and drinks with a festival wristband. 

Tickets are £12.50 for the whole evening or £8.50 for just The Wicker Man, and are limited so book early to avoid disappointment!

It’s back and the prizes are bigger and better! Do you have a film idea that you would like to pitch to our judges? The prizes for the winner of the best pitch are just glorious. The winner will receive £1000 worth of post-production services from Gorilla, 2000 square foot studio space equipped with lighting, cameras, green screen, space for building sets, edit suite and sound studio over 3 days from Digichemistry, worth £5,000 AND a complete Adobe Creative Cloud package worth £600. This prize package will give your next production a flying start.

FEATURE FILM - LAST SUMMER WITH MASTERCLASS

During a long hot summer in the rural paradise of 1970s West Wales, a courageous ten year old boy arms himself against the adult world to salvage the lives of his best friends, convincing them to run away with him after a love triangle ends in murder.

After the film there will be a masterclass with the crew of Last Summer. This event is included in our day pass or ‘Absolutely Everything’ pass.
This event is supported by Film Hub Wales as part of the BFI Film Audience Network (FAN).

Our fantastic judges have been busy selecting their favourite films. Awards will be handed out for the Best International Film as well as Best Welsh Film for each category. There will be a complimentary drink on arrival and a chance to network with some of our festival finalists! Anyone who attends the Awards Ceremony will also have the chance to vote for their favourite film, where the winner will get an ADOBE Creative Cloud subscription for 12 months!

Tickets are £8, which includes a free drink and access to the Film + TV Networking Party. Or free with our ‘Absolutely Everything’ pass.

HELEN BRUNSDON

ANIMATION

With twenty six years experience, Helen has worked extensively in the animation industry, firstly joining the BBC as a production co-ordinator and then as an assistant for the Cardiff International Animation Festival. Joining Aardman in 1993, she established herself within production and was approached by S4C to produce two ‘World Faith’ animated films. 

JAMES PLUMB

TWISTED TALES

Filmmaker and sexual astronaut, James Plumb’s films have been terrorising supermarket shelves in the UK, Europe and the US. His first feature had the honour of being the most torrented film on the interweb on the month of its release. Mad Science Films are currently in post production on their fourth and fifth feature films, ‘Little Monster’ and ‘Emojis of Horror’. James is also a writer based in South Wales, where life is cheap.

MIKE PARKER

Mike is a multi-award winning producer having worked on documentaries Goddodin and Silent Village, welsh sitcom Satellite City, the international hit A Mind to Kill and the feature films Rancid Aluminium, I Know You Know and 7Lives. 

PHILIP JOHN

ONE MINUTE WONDER

Philip John is a multi award winning, and multi BAFTA nominated Welsh writer director. Philip’s first film, ‘Moon Dogs’, recently won the Jury Award for Best Film at the Newport Beach International Film Festival and Best First Feature at the ‘Galway Fleadh’.

NAOMI WARING

COMMUNITY

Naomi is a Filmmaker and videographer with a background in performing and facilitating, with over 10 years’ experience as an actress. She’s produced both online broadcasting content as well as short films, documentaries and Music videos.

RYAN EDDLESTON

FICTION

Ryan is a BAFTA Cymru winning DOP, that shoots feature films. He’s just finished shooting the feature films ‘Good Posture’ (Dolly Wells), ‘The Fight’ (Jessica Hynes), ‘A Winter Love’ (Rhiana Yazzie), ‘Bittersweet Symphony’ (Jamie Adams) & ‘Love Spreads’. Recent feature titles include the critically acclaimed & BIFA nominated ‘Prevenge’ (Alice Lowe) & ‘Black Mountain Poets’ (Jamie Adams). Ryan’s work has screened on Television & at SXSW, Toronto, Venice & BFI London Film Festivals.

PAUL SNG

FACTUAL

As a film director and producer, Paul’s work focuses on people who challenge the status quo. In 2015 he founded Velvet Joy Productions, an independent studio based in Brighton, with the aim of exploring the lives and work of individuals who have been neglected, marginalised or misrepresented by mainstream media.

ALEKSANDRA JONES

MUSIC VIDEO

Aleksandra (Nikolajev) Jones is Choreographer, Director, and Producer. Aleksandra produced for theatre, television, and film. Working with new talents, mentoring and coaching she is also working with international
and local filmmakers, writers, directors, and production companies. She is a co-director and creative producer of The Republic of the Imagination – a Charity and European network of organizations that are developing CoArts Context Oriented Arts, Film, and Dance.

BERWYN ROWLANDS

FEATURES

Berwyn started sharing LGBT+ films with audiences in 1989 when he established the first International film festival in Wales. In 2006 he established the Iris Prize – at £30,000 the world’s largest LGBT short film prize presented annually during the Iris Prize Festival in Cardiff. The festival is recognized by Bafta as an “A” list festival. In 2018 Iris was identified for the fourth year as one of the top 50 film festivals in the world by Movie Maker Magazine. He is regularly asked to talk about film and LGBT+ issues on TV and radio.

STEVE SULLIVAN

Steve is a film producer and director, he is most recently known for his documentary about Chris Seivey, called Being Frank. His previous films have won awards internationally. He is best known for his short film A Heap Of Trouble, a musical about naked men, which won the grand jury prize at the Montreal Comedy Festival, a BAFTA Cymru for Best Short Film, and has screened at over 100 film festivals around the world.

JAMES BUTTON

COMEDY

James Button is a filmmaker specialising in writing and directing, and also editing, producing and has some acting experience. He studied Film & Video BA (Hons.) at Newport Film School and now has his own film production company- State Of Flow.

TOM BETTS

Tom Betts is a Cardiff-based filmmaker, the host of the long-running Chapter MovieMaker shorts screenings, and the director of the Darkened Rooms pop-up cinema series.

SARAH BRIDGEMAN

Sarah Bridgeman has been performing stand up all over the UK and has a warm and friendly style, her material is utterly relatable. She is a homegrown South Wales talent, a likeable girl next door figure, with a bit of bite. She is a regular guest commentator on Radio Wales and a finalist in the Welsh Unsigned Standup Comedy Awards. “Funny quirky and instantly likeable” Ffandango Comedy Club “Always a hit with our audience” – Dolly Chicken Comedy.

SIÂNNY THOMAS

Hailing from Port Talbot, Siânny Thomas’s comedy relates to relatives and having relations, chronicles chronic conditions, Welsh witticisms and tea. Siânny is also a contributor for BBC Wales’ Social Media Channel, BBC Sesh.

MATT TROY

Mat Troy is a Cardiff based comedian, writer, cartoonist, film-maker and bon vivant.

Responsible for, among other things, the Agents of LOVCRAFT and Cynic web series, The Depressed Detective webcomic and co-host of the We Make Things Fight Podcast.
