IF…. (RATED 15)

FRIDAY 22ND 9PM – 11PM

DAVID MORGAN CINEMA

Our weekend begins right in the centre of Cardiff’s bustling shopping district – kicking off with our music video shortlist. Get ready for some serious networking as we crack out the rainbow coloured wristbands. Simply choose the colour that matches your current/desired role in the industry and you’re ready to mingle. Complimentary drinks and snacks will be available throughout the evening. This event takes place across two floors in a rather awesome empty shop unit on the Hayes – so expect to see something a little different.

In support of the BFI Uprising The Spirit Of ‘68 Season, we will be screening Lindsay Anderson’s ‘If….’ depicting an anarchic vision of British society set in a boarding school, starring Malcom McDowell in his first screen role. This film won the Palme d’Or at the 1969 Cannes Film Festival. The British Film Institute, Total Film and Time Out Magazine have polled ‘If….’ in their top 20 films of all time. When released this film received an X certificate – so be warned, it’s not going to be pretty.

SHORT FILM 'NECKFACE'

WITH Q&A AND PROSECCO RECEPTION

SATURDAY 23RD 3.30PM – 4.30PM

THE BOOTLEGGER

The happiest day of a girl’s life is when she vows to honour and obey her inner-Bridezilla. Having dreamed of the perfect wedding, Laney wakes up with the most unwelcome guest in her bed – NeckFace – a horrible little goblin head with a penchant for sex noise. Will Laney still go through with it? Having spent a fortune on taffeta chair ties and £200 on her mother’s hat alone?

A dark comedy starring Isy Suttie, Nick Helm, Sian Harries and Elis James. A film by Llanbobl Vision and Rustle Up Productions. Film contains strong language. This session will also include a Q&A with the executive producer Tracy Spottiswoode – who has been the Development Executive for such films as ‘I Am Not A Witch’, ‘American Interior’ and ‘Kelly + Victor’.

FEATURE FILM '#BABYNYMPH'

SATURDAY 23RD 4PM – 5.30PM

BANG BEAN BAG CINEMA

Cibele – codename #babynymph – is the portrait of a modern generation who lives for ‘likes’ and ‘getting a life’. Like so many, she believes that happiness only exists if it is shared. Directed by Aldo Pedrosa, ‘#babynymph’ is a low budget movie that’s surprising audiences around the world. It has already grabbed a lot of international festival selections and several awards.

WEBSERIES 'MUMDEM'

WITH Q&A

SATURDAY 23RD 5PM – 6PM

THE BIG TOP

‘MumDem’ follows the story of four lads born and raised in the Welsh capital of Cardiff, with dreams of making it big in fashion. And Mums. In episode one, Atmosfear and the boys come up against a rival crew who are determined to undermine their business, which momentarily keeps them from chasing Mums. Is war with the Chinese inevitable?

The web series ‘Mumdem’ was shot in four days on location at Rumney Social Club and a lockup garage near Cardiff Bay. The character Dave is played by Liam Noble – best known for his role as Big Mad Andy in Channel 4 sitcom ‘Peep Show’. Creator Dan Summers talks to us about how he made the series and its journey to appearing on Amazon Prime Video.

FEATURE FILM ‘NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD’ (RATED 15)

SATURDAY 23RD 8.30PM – 9PM

CAPITOL BASEMENT

Our Twisted Tales Night takes place in a cavernous empty shop unit that lies beneath the Capitol Shopping Centre. We will be screening some dark, weird and just plain unsettling shorts with a sprinkling of gore and things you probably shouldn’t laugh at. Expect added zombies, gory make-up demonstrations – along with a bar and nacho stand.

Presented by Abertoir – The International Horror Festival of Wales, we’ll be screening 5 of their favourite horror shorts that have been screened at their festival. These include several winners of the Short Film Méliès d’Argent and the Abertoir Short Film Award.

Abertoir is an annual horror and horror film festival based in Aberystwyth Arts Centre. It’s Wales’ only dedicated horror festival and is a member of the European Fantastic Film Festivals Federation. As well as screening new, big-budget horror films – classic and independent films form a large and important part of the festival line-up. Each year, the Abertoir Short Films Competition showcases horror and fantasy short films from around the world. In addition to film screenings, the festival regularly features concerts, theatre shows, talks and special guest Q&As in its line-up. This year’s Abertoir will take place 13-18th November – visit www.abertoir.co.uk for more info.

In support of the BFI Uprising The Spirit Of ‘68 Season, we will be screening George A. Romero’s zombie classic Night Of The Living Dead. I don’t think we really need to tell you what happens in this one.

FEATURE FILM 'BRITISH WINTERS'

WITH Q&A

SUNDAY 24TH 12.30PM – 3PM

CWTCH CORNER CINEMA

Procrastinator Noel Winters may be surrounded by friends and family but he’s lonely, disenchanted and, frankly, lazy. Disillusioned with himself as much as the outside world, he draws inspiration from his younger adopted sister, Hannah, who becomes a beacon of hope in a world Noel finds increasingly challenging. Forced to confront his life and everyone in it, Noel finally makes a life-changing decision. But will it be the right one?

A debut film from writer/director Andrew Turner, ‘British Winters’ is the gripping story of one man’s struggle with life and his place in the world.

This screening is supported by Film Hub Wales.
